Radio Extract Breakdown

Radio Extract Analysis

This radio extract was of good quality and focused on many different subjects through the duration of it. To summarise, they talked about:
  • Whether you like your own birth name.
  • Current traffic.
  • Brexit negotiations.
  • A British pub that is having a pop-up exhibition on Ancient Egypt artefacts.
  • Taxi Crime in Peterborough.
  • Updates on the Cambridge Metro Project.
With some parts coming live and some being pre-recorded, the extract had a fairly authentic feeling to it with the viewers being talked to at points and just observing and listening at other points. All topics and discussion didn't linger thanks to the talkers moving on quickly.

While some were long, the sweepers used in the programme were informative and catchy for people of all ages to take note of. People moving from station to station can be dragged in through the fun jingle playing every so often and this applies to almost everyone.

There were three presenters in the radio extract but the first two were the best. The first presenter was usually live and had a natural vibe around the way that she spoke. Her discussions were interesting and fun to listen to, making her a good choice of presenter for the people of 30-40 as it would most likely match their tone.

The second presenter shown to us was someone going to an Egyptian exhibit and interviewed two different people. He was nice and engaging to listen to but wasn't as interesting as the prior presenter. Given that the target audience aren't going to be looking for a radio show that is going 100mph, this is a good presenter.

The final presenter was our news provider and had a very monotone voice. Taking into account that most listeners at this time would still be hardly awake and groggy, he wasn't and won't be interesting to listen to. Taking that into account, this presenter would still be a good fit for the show as the global or local news isn't something that needs to have much personality or character around it so this presenter was a good fit for the target audience, considering everyone who has a car and may listen to the news will pay attention to him.

Taking all of this into account, this radio show is a very good fit for their target audience of middle-aged, working adults during rush hour.
